The thermal grease on the electronic radiator is a chemical substance, so it also has relevant performance parameters that reflect its own working characteristics. As long as you understand the meaning of these parameters, you can judge the performance of a thermal grease product.
Working temperature
The working temperature is an important parameter to ensure that the thermal grease is in a solid or liquid state. If the temperature is too high, the thermal grease will become liquid due to the decrease in viscosity; if the temperature is too low, it will become solid due to the increase in viscosity. Both situations are not conducive to heat dissipation. The working temperature of thermal grease is generally -50 ℃ ~ 180 ℃. For the working temperature of thermal grease, generally do not worry, after all, it is difficult to regular the CPU temperature beyond this range, unless you intend to use liquid nitrogen refrigeration-most of the thermal grease will lose its effect at that temperature.
Electronic radiator
coefficient of heat conduction
Compared with commonly used electronic radiator materials, the heat conduction system of heat-conducting silicone grease is much smaller. In the current general specification, the heat conduction coefficient of heat-conducting silicone grease is required to be 1.13W/mK. Compared with 401W/mk of copper, the gap is not the same, but compared with air, it is still much higher. From this, it can be seen how important it is for the bottom surface of the radiator to be smooth, and how shameless some manufacturers claim that the radiator whose bottom surface is not flat enough only needs to be filled with thermal conductive silicone grease without affecting its heat dissipation capacity.
coefficient of thermal resistance
The coefficient of thermal resistance represents the impeding effect of an object on heat conduction. The concept of thermal resistance is very similar to that of resistance, and the unit is similar to that of resistance (℃/W), that is, when the continuous heat transfer power of the object is 1W, the temperature difference between the two ends of the heat conduction path. Obviously, the lower the thermal resistance, the better, because under the same ambient temperature and thermal power, the lower the thermal resistance, the lower the temperature of the heating object. The size of the thermal resistance has a great relationship with the material used in the thermal conductive silicone grease.
dielectric constant
For some CPUs that are not protected by a metal top cover, the dielectric constant is a very important parameter, which is related to whether there is a short circuit inside the computer. Ordinary thermal grease is used in good insulation materials, but some special silicone grease (such as silver grease, etc.) may have a certain degree of electrical conductivity. Of course, the current CPU is equipped with a metal top cover for heat conduction and protection of the core, so there is no need to worry about the short circuit problem caused by the overflow of heat conduction silicone grease, but care must also be taken not to apply heat conduction silicone grease to other places such as the motherboard.
The dielectric constant of thermal silicone grease used in mainstream electronic heat sink is greater than 5.1.
Viscosity
Viscosity refers to the viscosity of thermal silicone grease. In general, the viscosity of thermal grease is around 68.
Precautions for the use of thermal grease
The most important thing when applying thermal conductive silicone grease is uniform. It can cover the CPU core. There is no need to apply too much or even a thick layer. That will affect the performance of the radiator. It should be clear that the so-called thermal conductive silicone grease has a high thermal conductivity coefficient. Compared with air, it is much lower than radiator materials such as copper or even aluminum.
In addition, most of the ordinary thermal grease in the use of a year or more, there will be "dry" or "hardening" phenomenon, greatly affecting the heat dissipation effect. Therefore, to ensure long-term stable operation of the system, regular cleaning and reapplication of silicone grease is also necessary.
